FAIRFAX, VA — Rink Management Services Corporation is seeking approval from Fairfax County to allow the company to set up and operate an outdoor roller skating rink in the Mosaic District again this summer.

"The goal of this event is to create a fun activity that brings the community outside and active after a couple of years of COVID-19 quarantine," RMSC said, in its special permit application.

If approved, the skating rink would open be from June 24 though Sept. 25., and located on Mosaic Town Drive at the corner of District Avenue. This section of the road in front of the Angelika Film Center and Cafe would be closed while the rink is in operation, as well as one week before for installation and one week after for tear down.

"We are requesting that this permit be approved for future years as well," RMSC said, in its application. "The intention would be to run this roller rink for approximately 90 days each year from the beginning of April through the end of June. We would also like to run an ice rink for approximately 120 day time period opening in early November and closing in late February."

A permission letter dated March 24 from Greg Derach, vice president of EDENS, the Mosaic District's property manager, was included in RMSC's application. Derach recommended the special permit for the 2022 season, as well as future permits for ice and skating rinks in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
