Safe Assured ID Program Available in Fairfax: Police

Free but by appointment only, the Safe Assured ID program is aimed to better track people reported missing, according to Fairfax Police.

FAIRFAX, VA — If you're one of those folks who zealously holds true to keeping a right to privacy and wants the government to stay out your personal affairs, this program probably falls somewhere far south of your alley.

But if you're interested in making it easier to be found if you or a member of your family goes missing or falls victim to some other form of serious incident, you might want to check out the Safe Assured ID Program, being offered free to residents (by appointment) 3 p.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 4 at Fairfax Police headquarters, 3730 Old Lee Highway.

Here's the deal: After completing the necessary paperwork, individuals are filmed and a short video is made to show movements and mannerisms. Then digital fingerprints are taken.

After that, the video, fingerprints and personal information is placed on a mini-CD, after which the encrypted information is given to the family for safekeeping in the event of an emergency.

Missing person posters can be created and printed from the CD in English, Spanish and French, and the family also is provided with a color photo ID card.
