16-Year-Old Claims Gunshot Wound, Faces Firearm, Drug Charges: Police

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 16-year-old from Fredericksburg is facing firearm and drug-related charges after they told police they were suffering from a gunshot wound in the leg early Tuesday morning.

Officers and emergency medical personnel responded around 12:06 a.m. to a home in the 1000 block of Rampasture Drive for the report of a shooting with injury. When they arrived on the scene, police and EMS found a 16-year-old on the floor of a bedroom. They told police that they'd been shot in the leg. The teen also reported hearing the sound of gunshots outside their home.

EMS personnel examined the 16-year-old's leg but found no visible injury. The teen was taken to a nearby hospital, where they were medically cleared, according to police.

Investigators determined that four rounds had been fired into the home, but no on was injured. Further investigation revealed that the 16-year-old was in possession of a firearm and marijuana, according to police.

Once the 16-year-old was released from the hospital, police obtained petitions and transported the juvenile to the detention center. The teen was charged with felony possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics and unlawful possession of marijuana while under the age of 18.
