FREDERICKSBURG, VA — On Monday, the Carolina League named Travis Sykora, a starting pitcher with the Fredericksburg Nationals, as the league's Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 28 to Aug. 4, according to Major League Baseball. This makes him the first FredNats to receive the weekly honor this season.

Selected by the Washington Nationals last summer as a third round draft pick, the Round Rock, Texas native dominated the Lynchburg Hellcats during the week. Sykora pitched five no-hit innings, walking one and striking out eight, while facing the minimum 15 batters to earn him his second professional win.

Promoted to Fredericksburg on May 1, Sykora has allowed just four earned runs across 22 innings (1.64 ERA) in his last five starts. He's kept his opponents hitting against him at .110 (8-for-73). In addition to not allowing a home run, he's also gotten 39 strike outs and only nine walks over those five outings.

On Tuesday, the Carolina League named former FredNat starter Marc Davis as its Pitcher of the Month for July, according to Major League Baseball.

With Brandon Pimentel being named the league's April Player of the Month, this makes Davis the second FredNat to receive a player of the month honor.

Before the 24-year-old's promotion to High-A Wilmington on July 26, Davis pitched 20 innings over four starts in July, going 3-0 with a 0.45 ERA.

Although Washington selected Davis in the 11th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, he missed the entire 2023 season following Tommy John surgery.
