STAFFORD, VA — A 36-year-old man who was scheduled to have an interview with Stafford County Sheriff's Office detectives was found dead late Monday afternoon in the front parking lot of the Ford T. Humphrey Public Safety Building at 1225 Courthouse Road.

Deputies responded around 4:27 p.m. to the parking lot for the report of a shooting. That's where they found the man "deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," according to Tuesday's daily incident report.

The body will be sent to the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death, according to a sheriff's office spokesman.

In response to Patch's request for a comment on the incident, the spokesman provided the following statement from the sheriff's office:

"For those suffering from any type of mental health crisis or contemplating self-harm, we encourage them to seek help. There are numerous resources available, including the National Suicide Lifeline that is operational 24 hours a day. Those in a crisis can call 988 to speak with someone at the crisis center no matter the time of day."
