Temperatures to Drop, Rain to Set in this Weekend: NWS Forecasts

Check out the full forecast in Fredericksburg for the first unofficial weekend of fall.

The first unofficial weekend of fall has arrived, and temperatures throughout Northern Virginia have already begun to drop.

However, that might be due to the rain in this weekend’s forecast.

Rain is likely to arrive in the area Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, and should stay in the area through Sunday morning with a chance the rain escalates to a thunderstorm throughout that time.

Friday’s weather should be mostly clear with a high in the low-80s, and the weekend highs should sit in the high-70s. By Sunday night, the evening low will already have dropped into the mid-50s, signifying autumn is definitely setting in.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61. Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 5 mph.

Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after noon. High near 79. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 61. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday: A chance of showers, mainly before 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 54.
