🌱 Officer Not Charged In Shooting + New Deputy County Administrator

  1. After a shooting in May at James Crossing Apartments, the officer who was involved in the deadly act will not be facing any criminal charges. According to Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Bethany Harrison, Officer Shane Evans’ actions didn’t warrant any kind of criminal charges to be filed and was a justifiable use of deadly force based on the evidence she was given to review. Harrison ended up reviewing reports from the incident that were provided by the Virginia State Police, who investigated the matter, body camera, and more. (WSET)
  2. On Monday, Jul. 10, Amherst County announced the woman who will be taking over as the new Deputy County Administrator. Finance Director Stacey McBride has officially been promoted and will now help the County Administrator with a variety of initiatives, including coordinating budget, personnel, and administrative policy matters that are meant to maintain operational standards. In addition, she’ll also be a part of presenting and preparing the annual budget for the County Board of Supervisors. (WSET)
  3. The City of Lynchburg announced that starting on Monday, Jul. 17, and continuing through to mid-August, a number of temporary lane closures will take place. To accommodate Shentel crews performing aerial, trenching, and directional drilling work, Blackford Street, D Street, and Rivermont Ave will experience lane closures from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day.   • A mother-daughter duo from Lynchburg is ready to put their baking, as well as detective skills to use as they take part in ‘Crime Scene Kitchen’ on FOX. Tarsha Joyner and Kristy Gardner own the beloved local bakery Mrs. Joy’s Absolutely Fabulous Treats, and they’ve been featured on a number of other cooking shows in the past. (WFXRTV)
  • Following a very heated discussion a few weeks prior, Lynchburg’s City Council is gearing up to hear from Councilman Martin Misjuns regarding his new resolution for the city. This new resolution is meant to keep the government focusing on what the community really needs and to promote merit, excellence, and opportunity within their local government. However, Misjun’s proposal received major backlash from a number of residents in Lynchburg, as well as Vice Mayor Chris Faraldi. (KSET)
