MCLEAN, VA — David Clay Murray, 48, a teacher and football coach at Langley High School, was arrested by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office in Maryland on five counts of sexual solicitation of a minor.

On Aug. 1, a detective with the Maryland agency was working undercover, posing as a 15-year-old girl, and reported that Murray initiated contact through a cellular messaging application. Although the detective told Murray several times that he was communicating with a 15-year-old girl, he continued engaging the undercover detective in a sexual conversation, even soliciting numerous sex acts, according to the sheriff's office.

Frederick County Sheriff's detectives obtained an arrest warrant for five counts of sexual solicitation of a minor. Fairfax County Police arrested Murray in Fairfax County, where he awaits extradition to Maryland.

“This case is a very good example of agency cooperation and information sharing across state lines to take an offender off the street," said Sheriff Chuck Jenkins of Frederick County, Maryland. "The public should know that sheriff’s office detectives are handling an increasing number of these types of cases, which should be alarming to parents. I will also take this opportunity to reinforce to parents to pay close attention to what their minor children are involved in on mobile apps, websites, and social media platforms."

Following his arrest, Fairfax County Public Schools suspended Murray, according to a school district spokesman.
