ALEXANDRIA, VA — The leaves are changing, and that means it will soon be time to rake fallen leaves and get them to the curb for collection.

The City of Alexandria will provide leaf collection starting on Oct. 30. Collections will likely continue into early January as remaining fallen leaves are rounded up.

Residents who receive city trash and recycling collection services can either receive leaf vacuum service or paper leaf bag collection. Leaves and yard waste may also be left at home for composting.

For vacuum collection, residents should rake their leaves to the curb. For paper bag collection, residents should put leaves in paper leaf bags for collection. Leaves placed in plastic bags will be treated as regular trash. Brush and other yard waste items should not be mixed with leaves, as they can injure workers and damage equipment.

Paper leaf bags are available first come, first served while supplies last. The limit is 15 bags per resident for each visit.
