Early Education Teacher Shows Dedication: Alexandria Teacher Shout-Out

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Great teachers matter. In Alexandria, we're fortunate to have teachers like Dawn Bingman.

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

Dawn is dedicated to teaching her little students not only the ABCs but how to be a good person. She created four websites for her students where they click on an item on the main screen and information about the objects comes up. Considering that she has students who speak Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Somali, or Amharic as a first language, these study guides make it fun and effective. Dawn has actively recruited volunteer reading tutors for Alexandria's Book Buddy program since its inception, a program that is now city-wide. In addition, Dawn is one of two teachers selected to initiate the early childhood program at the new Minnie Howard Early Childhood Program campus. Dawn loves to knit and she has knitted cupcakes for all of the students in her class and for those in the adjacent room!
