ALEXANDRIA, VA — With the pending redevelopment of the Montgomery Center in Old Town North, another tenant has relocated within Alexandria.

Salon Kate & Spa, which had been at the Montgomery Center for six years, is open at its new location at 1064 N Fayette St., in Alexandria. The business is run by Kate (Chong) Walters, who has over 30 years of experience as a beauty stylist.

According to the business, Salon Kate & Spa offers a range of beauty services, including hair cuts and treatments, manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing, eyelash extensions and semi-permanent makeup.

Businesses will ultimately close or relocate from the Montgomery Center, a space with commercial tenants between Madison and Montgomery Streets. In 2023, developer Carr Companies received approval for a redevelopment of Montgomery Center into a mixed-use development. Plans include a multifamily residential building, an arts and culture anchor, ground floor retail and two public plazas.

Salon Kate & Spa will have a familiar neighbor nearby — the nonprofit Art League. The nonprofit is renovating and relocating its Montgomery Center location to 800 Slaters Lane. Its Torpedo Factory Art Center location will remain open.

Another business, A La Lucia, is expected to close at the end of September. The North Old Town Independent Citizens Association held a farewell event Tuesday to celebrate A La Lucia's 20 years of business. Crooked Beat Records relocated to Del Ray from Montgomery Center last year.
