ALEXANDRIA, VA — As residents get ready to celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks, barbecues and trips to the beach, various closures and schedule changes are planned for services around Alexandria.

The Independence Day holiday falls on Tuesday, July 4, which means some services will be closed Monday as well. City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on July 4, and other services will have schedule changes.

Here are the openings and closings to know for Fourth of July in Alexandria:

City of Alexandria government offices: Closed on Tuesday, July 4.

Alexandria City Public Schools: Students are on summer break, but administrative offices and schools are closed on July 4.

Courts: The Alexandria Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, Alexandria Circuit Court, Alexandria General District Court will be closed on July 3 and 4. The Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Service Unit will be open on Monday, July 3, and closed on Tuesday, July 4.

DASH Bus: The fare-free DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Tuesday, July 4. The free King Street Trolley will operate from King Street Metro to Alexandria City Hall every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more information, visit dashbus.com.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers in Northern Virginia will be closed July 4.

Health Department: The Alexandria Health Department, the Flora Krause Casey Pharmacy, and the Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria High School will be closed Tuesday, July 4.

Historic Alexandria facilities: On Tuesday, July 4, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the Alexandria Archaeology Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All other Historic Alexandria museums are closed. For more information, visit www.alexandriava.gov/Historic.

Impound facility: The City’s impound facility will be closed Tuesday, July 4. The impound facility is closed every Saturday and Sunday, as well as on all observed city holidays. Fees will continue to accrue on Saturdays and Sundays but not on holidays.

Libraries: On July 4, all Alexandria Library branches, including the Alexandria Law Library, will be closed.

Metro: Metro will run on a Sunday holiday schedule on July 4. The Vienna and Dunn Loring stations remain closed on the Orange Line for a rail project through July 16. Orange Line service runs between West Falls Church and New Carrollton. Free shuttles serve the closed stations.

Outdoor pools: On Tuesday, July 4, Old Town Pool (1609 Cameron St) and Warwick Pool (3301 Landover St.) will be open 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Memorial Pool (901 Wythe St.) will be open 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.; and Potomac Yard Park Interactive Fountain (2501 Potomac Ave.) will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Post offices: Closed on July 4.

Recreation, nature, and arts centers: On Tuesday, July 4, all City recreation and nature centers, including Chinquapin Park Recreation Center and Aquatics Facility, will be closed. For more information, visit www.alexandriava.gov/Recreation. The Torpedo Factory Art Center is closed on July 4.

Trash and recycling collection: For city collection customers, residential trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day during the week of Tuesday, July 4. Curbside food waste collection pilot schedule will also be delayed by one day. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will be open Monday, July 3.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not provide train service on July 4.
