The Fairfax County Planning Commission reportedly has approved a proposal for a data center project at Sunrise Technology Park.

RESTON, VA -- A huge new development on the 22-acre Sunrise Technology Park could be coming soon, according to a report.

The Commercial Observer reports that the Fairfax County Planning Commission has approved a proposal for a data center project at the site. The proposal was put forward by CoreSite Realty, and the commission signed off on it June 28. There will be a final hearing on July 31.

CoreSite Realty purchased the property from Brookfield Office Properties for $60 million back in August 2016, according to reports.

Currently there are four office buildings at the site. CoreSite would repurpose some of the structures and destroy the others.

"CoreSite's Northern Virginia data center campus in Reston currently includes two operational facilities, VA1 and VA2, as well as one that is under construction (VA3) as part of a multiple-facility expansion," according to CoreSite's website. "In total, CoreSite will operate over a million square feet of data center colocation space upon full build out. Designed to create a reliable, high-performance option for enterprises, networks and cloud service providers looking to expand and reduce costs, CoreSite’s Reston colocation campus provides direct, low-latency access to and from Ashburn and our data centers in Washington, D.C."
