RESTON, VA -- Reston activists are gearing up for another fight to prevent one of two local golf courses from possibly being turned into housing after it was sold to a pair of developers, according to a report.

The Washington Business Journal reports that Weller Development Co. and War Horse Cities, both located in Baltimore, have purchased the 168-acre Reston National Golf Course.

The golf course was sold by Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance and Billy Casper Golf, two years after they put it on the market. Billy Casper Golf will continue managing the golf course and there are no set plans for the property beyond that, a founding partner of Weller Development said in a statement as reported by WBJ.

Rescue Reston, a local activist group that successfully defeated an attempt a few years ago to turn the golf course into a development, issued a statement on Facebook promising "war" if there is any attempt to do anything to the golf course.

"You bought a golf course and you own a golf course. Period," the statement reads.

Fairfax County informed the previous owner of the golf course in 2012 that it could not be used for anything other than golf or open space. A legal fight ensued, culminating in 2016 when lawyers for RN Golf -- the partnership that just sold the golf course -- decided not to take the fight to the Virginia Supreme Court.
