Shooting Near Giant Food In Vienna Deemed Civil Dispute: Police

VIENNA, VA — Two family members were involved in a shooting with minor injuries near Giant Food in Vienna Sunday afternoon, according to Vienna Police. Police say the incident was a civil dispute.

Around 3:40 p.m., police responded to a report of guns discharged near Giant Food at 359 Maple Avenue E. Police have identified the two involved people, who are family members. One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was released. The second injured person did not need medical attention.

Following an investigation, Vienna Police obtained arrest warrants on Jan. 31 to charge Aria Shahryary with felony shooting into an occupied vehicle, felony willful discharge of a firearm in a public place and misdemeanor brandishing. Thursday, Shahryary voluntarily reported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was held on a $50,000 secured bond.

Vienna Police say there was not an ongoing threat to public safety.

"Shooting incidents are rare in the Town of Vienna and citizens should expect a full and complete investigation," the police department said in a statement. "The police department has dedicated numerous personnel to the investigation to ensure a thorough examination of the incident."
