2-Vehicle Crash Kills Chantilly Driver In Merrifield: Police

A driver died after his vehicle crashed into a tractor-trailer Tuesday morning in Merrifield, according to Fairfax County Police.

MERRIFIELD, VA — A driver from Chantilly died Tuesday morning in a crash with a tractor-trailer in Merrifield, according to Fairfax County Police.

Around 7:02 p.m., police responded to the crash in the 2900 block of Prosperity Avenue. Police believe the tractor-trailer driver was making a left turn onto southbound Prosperity Avenue when a northbound 2007 Nissan 350Z struck the truck. According to police, the Nissan driver was traveling at a high speed and lost control.

The Nissan driver was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. He was identified as David Mendez Hernandez, 19, of Chantilly.

This was Fairfax County's 19th non-pedestrian crash death in 2022. There were 19 non-pedestrian fatalities by this time in 2021.
