9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Returns To Vienna In 2023

The 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the victims will be remembered during a ceremony.

UPDATE: The ceremony was moved indoors to the Vienna Community Center.

VIENNA, VA — To remember the victims, survivors and first responders of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Town of Vienna will host its annual remembrance ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11.

The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. at the Vienna Community Center. The Patriot Day ceremony hosted by the Town of Vienna and American Legion Post 180 will remember the lives lost due to the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed in the suicide attacks carried out by 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group Al-Qaeda. Many of the victims were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, and additional victims died in the attack on the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the hijacked plane crash near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. There were 72 victims from Northern Virginia.

First responders from Fairfax County and other Northern Virginia jurisdictions responded to the attack on the Pentagon.
