VIENNA, VA — To help address hunger around the world, volunteers at Vienna Presbyterian Church will gather to pack up to 30,000 meals.

The church will host a meal packing event for Rise Against Hunger, a nonprofit that helps with hunger relief on an international level. Vienna Presbyterian Church's food packing is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

"On October 21st, VPC welcomes the community to join us as we package 30,000 meals for some of the poorest regions in the world," said Sue Hamblen, director of Missions for Vienna Presbyterian Church. "This wonderful service opportunity is open to all ages, as even the little ones can measure out the rice and the beans."

For Rise Against Hunger, "the solution starts with a meal," helping residents achieve "resilience, self-sufficiency, education, empowerment and bright futures."

Patch has partnered with Feeding America since 2020 to help raise awareness in our local communities of hunger, a persistent national problem exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks and 60,000 local meals programs across the country, estimates that nearly 34 million people, including 9 million children — about 1 in 6 Americans — are living with food insecurity. This is a Patch social good project; Feeding America receives 100 percent of donations. Find out how you can donate in your community or find a food pantry near you.
