VIENNA, VA — As part of a Liberty Amendments Month event, the design for renovations at Patrick Henry Library will be presented Wednesday

The design presentation will happen during Liberty & Libraries: Book Talk & Unveiling of Patrick Henry Redesign Plans from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street Southeast Vienna, VA. Residents can register for free to attend.

Fairfax County voters approved a bond referendum in 2020 to support four library projects, including Patrick Henry Library's renovation. The Patrick Henry Library renovation is a collaboration between Fairfax County and the Town of Vienna, as the library renovation will be coordinated with constructing new parking for the library and town public parking.

Fairfax County Public Library Director Jessica Hudson and a representative from Fairfax County's capital programs team will present design plans for the new Patrick Henry Library at the meeting. Patch will provide an update on the plans at a later time.

The event also includes a discussion with Fairfax County Public Library librarians Chris Barbuschak and Suzanne LaPierre on their new book "Desegregation in Northern Virginia Libraries." The librarians will talk about civil rights activists who helped desegregate local public libraries during the Jim Crow era. Vienna and the origin of the Patrick Henry Library will be part of the discussion. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
