Snow Plowing Update, What's Closed In Vienna On Jan. 14

VIENNA, VA—The snow has stopped after the weekend's winter storm, but efforts continue to clear snow from roads and walkways around the Town of Vienna and Fairfax County Monday, Jan. 14.

Inside the Town of Vienna, Town crews clear roads, starting with primary streets then secondary streets. According to an alert from the Town, crews cleared roads overnight through Monday. Residents are asked to move cars from snow emergency routes—and off streets when possible. Sidewalks should also be cleared as soon as possible.

For Fairfax County outside the Town of Vienna, the Virginia Department of Transportation clears all but a few private roads. The agency tweeted that interstates and primary routes have been cleared, and crews are working on residential streets Monday.

Residents can check the status of plowing on roads at vdotplows.org. Check real-time road conditions at 511virginia.org.

Homeowners are asked to clear sidewalks in front of residences and businesses to keep them safe for pedestrians and particularly children and those with disabilities or the elderly.

Fairfax County recommends that you consider shoveling the following seven places:

• The sidewalk in front of your home
• The sidewalk in front of vacant homes or homes where residents are unable to shovel
• Fire hydrants
• Bus stops (there are more than 4,000 in the county)
• Sidewalks/paths that lead to schools or community buildings where snow has been removed
• Bike trails
• Storm drains

Closures for Monday, Jan. 14

Town of Vienna offices and the community center opened at 10 a.m. Trash collection for Monday has been canceled. The Town Council work session will happen at 7:30 p.m. as scheduled. Trash and recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, but residents should not put out brush or bulk items.

Fairfax County government offices opened at 10 a.m. on Monday. Emergency personnel must report on normal time. Other employees may take unscheduled leave for the rest of the day while notifying their supervisors. The Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are open on a normal schedule.

County trash and yard waste collection happened as scheduled. The vacuum leaf collection program will not happen Monday. If you receive private collection, contact your provider.

Fairfax County Public Schools is closed on Monday, which includes offices, School Age Child Care centers and activities at schools. Any future operating status updates will be shared at www.fcps.edu.

RECenters opened at 10 a.m., with the exception of George Washington RECenter opening at 3 p.m. Community centers, senior centers and teen centers at non-FCPS locations will open at 10 a.m., but contact them for the status of specific programs. Fairfax County libraries open at 11 a.m., except the Centreville branch, which is closed.

Fairfax Connector is running on a Saturday schedule. FASTRAN will make trips for dialysis, chemotherapy and radiation only. All other scheduled route services are canceled, including senior centers, adult day health care, Women's Recovery Center, senior residence trips and charter services.
