Vienna's Stop Sign Enforcement Yields Hundreds Of Citations

VIENNA, VA — A stop sign enforcement campaign carried out by Vienna Police in June resulted in hundreds of citations.

According to Vienna Police, the enhanced enforcement resulted in 236 stop sign citations and 153 citations for other traffic violations. During a similar stop sign enforcement campaign last June, Vienna Police issued 220 stop sign citations and 108 other traffic citations. Drivers caught with stop sign or red light violations could face fines and three demerit points on their driver's license.

Officers conducted the enforcement in locations within the town. Drivers were reminded to come to a complete stop at a stop sign or flashing red light as well as yielding before entering a crosswalk, intersection or stop line.

The police department said it would continue "selective enforcement campaigns" in the coming months to boost safety.

"We would like to thank the community members who contacted us and made us aware of specific problem intersections, and we will continue to monitor them," police said in a statement.
