WOODBRIDGE, VA — The Prince William Health District said the county will receive 5,000 additional COVID-19 vaccines next week in addition to its regular allocation, according to a press release. Vaccinations will be available by appointment only at Potomac Middle School, the Kelly Leadership Building, and Beacon Hall.

"We are surprised and grateful that we got extra doses of the vaccine," said Dr. Allison Asher, Prince William Health District's health director. "Our goal is to administer these vaccines as quickly as possible, to get as many Prince William area residents vaccinated and off the wait list as we possibly can."

Virginia is currently administering vaccines to residents who qualify for Phase 1a and Phase 1b of vaccine distribution. Eligible individuals include health-care workers, people aged 65 or older, and those aged 16-64 with a high-risk medical condition or disability.

Beacon Hall at George Mason University's Manassas campus was previously the county's only vaccination site. Beacon Hall is located at 10945 George Mason Court. In order to administer the new vaccines more quickly, the Prince William Health District is opening the additional vaccine clinics next week.

Potomac Middle School, located at 3130 Panther Pride Drive in Dumfries, will begin administering vaccines on Monday, Feb. 1. The Kelly Leadership Building at 14715 Bristow Road in Manassas will open as a vaccination site on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

Next week's influx of additional vaccines will be used to help the backlog of individuals who have been waiting for an appointment, according to a press release from the Prince William County government. It is unclear if the county will continue to receive an additional 5,000 vaccine doses on a regular basis after next week.

The county says that it will keep the two new vaccination sites open if they continue to receive the additional doses.

More information about vaccine eligibility is available on the health district's website, and eligible individuals can register for the vaccine there, as well.
