70s Age Group Leads Vaccinations In Prince William: New Data

People aged 70-79 have received the most vaccines in Prince William County, according to new data from the Virginia Department of Health.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — People in their 70s lead age groups in Prince William County for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at the start of March, according to new data.

The Virginia Department of Health recently added vaccine demographics data, showing vaccine doses given by age group and racial or ethnic group. But while age data is available for all vaccine doses, race and ethnicity data is missing for 467,850 people with at least one dose statewide.

Among age groups in Prince William County, people in their 70s account for 8,513 people with at least one dose. The 40s and 50s age groups follow with 8,464 and 8,281 vaccinations respectively. The 40s age group leads the way for fully vaccinated people with 4,294 individuals who have received both vaccine doses.

On a population basis, the 80 and up age group has the most vaccines per 100,000 people. The rate for this age group is 53,077 per 100,000 people for first doses and 25,014 per 100,000 for fully vaccinated people. The 70s age group is second with a rate of 38,033 per 100,000 people for first doses and 14,690 per 100,000 for fully vaccinated people.

People 75 and older were initially eligible in phase 1b starting Jan. 11 before eligibility expanded on Jan. 18 to cover anyone 65 and up and 16 to 64 with an underlying health condition or disability.

Here is the age group breakdown so far for first doses and second doses in Prince William County:

  • 0-9: 0 doses
  • 10-19: 444 first doses, 154 fully vaccinated
  • 20-29: 4,750 first doses, 2,508 fully vaccinated
  • 30-39: 6,737 first doses, 3,649 fully vaccinated
  • 40-49: 8,464 first doses, 4,294 fully vaccinated
  • 50-59: 8,281 first doses, 3,824 fully vaccinated
  • 60-69: 7,154 first doses, 2,396 fully vaccinated
  • 70-79: 8,513 first doses, 3,288 fully vaccinated
  • 80 and up: 4,919 first doses, 2,288 fully vaccinated

As for the race and ethnicity category, data is missing for 16,447 people with the first dose and 7,566 fully vaccinated people in Prince William County.

The rate of vaccination per 100,000 people is the highest for the Native American population: 12,480 first doses per 100,000 people and 5,200 fully vaccinated per 100,000 people. The rate is the lowest for Black residents: 4,158 first doses per 100,000 and 1,838 fully vaccinated per 100,000 people.

Here is the racial and ethnic group breakdown of vaccinations:

  • Asian or Pacific Islander: 2,211 first doses, 1,026 fully vaccinated
  • Black: 4,276 first doses, 1,890 fully vaccinated
  • Latino: 5,552 first doses, 2,421 fully vaccinated
  • Native American: 156 first doses, 65 fully vaccinated
  • White: 18,092 first doses, 8,271 fully vaccinated
  • Other race: 2,528 first doses, 1,162 fully vaccinated
  • Not reported: 16,447 first doses, 7,566 fully vaccinated

In February, the Prince William Health District joined Virginia's statewide vaccine registration system. Residents across Virginia can pre-register for the vaccine online, regardless of their current eligibility.
