Abandoned Animal Investigation At Woodbridge Apartment Leads To Charges

An animal cruelty investigation revealed live and dead animals found in a vacated apartment in Woodbridge, police say.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Prince William County Police charged a suspect Sunday as a result of an animal cruelty investigation involving abandoned animals in Woodbridge.

The investigation happened at the Riverside Station Apartments in the 14000 block of Big Crest Lane in Woodbridge. Police say the suspect left several domestic animals and reptiles in the home after moving out around Jan. 25. Animal control officers found live and dead animals inside the apartment. The alive animals are expected to survive after receiving treatment.

Testing of the live and dead animals found the animals had not received proper care for an extended time.

Paul Michael Balletto, 21, now of Londonberry, New Hampshire, was charged with five counts of animal cruelty and five counts of animal abandonment. He was released on court summons and has a court date on Aug. 14.

Sexual Assault Investigation: On April 13, detectives concluded an investigation into a
sexual assault that was reported to have occurred in the 15800 block of Richmond Hwy. in
Woodbridge (22191) on the evening of March 12. The investigation revealed the victim, a
28-year-old woman, was approached and inappropriately touched by an unknown man,
later identified as the accused. The two parties then walked to a nearby business where
the accused sexually assaulted the victim a second time before separating. While
investigating the incident, detectives obtained arrest warrants for the accused, identified
as Robert Eugene DEAL, who was taken into custody by Manassas City police on April 13.

Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor: On April 13 at 8:13PM, officers responded
to the Walmart located at 14000 Worth Ave. in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate an unattended child. The investigation revealed a good Samaritan observed the victim, a two-month-old infant boy, unattended inside a vehicle in the parking lot. Upon arriving at the scene, officers observed the parents with the victim who had been taken out of the vehicle. Officers determined the father, identified as the accused, and other family members went into the store, leaving the victim inside the vehicle. The victim was unharmed. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Mirwais ALIZADA, was arrested.
