Christmas and Jesus (peace be upon him)

Jesus (peace be upon him) is held in special regards by Muslims all around the world

Christmas during lockdown (The Scotsman)

As Christmas is here, everyone celebrating is fastening their seat belts to celebrate this holiday at home. Social distancing has gotten in the ways of families coming together. It is unfortunate due to the current circumstances, but we have to be realistic and follow the government’s guidelines to stay safe. The year 2020 has already proven to be one of the unpredictable years, but it definitely got people reflecting on their life choices, as it has for me.

Although as a Muslim, I don’t celebrate Christmas it is noteworthy that Jesus (peace be upon him) is held in special regards by Muslims all around the world. My religion, Islam, believes in Jesus (pbuh) to be a prophet of God who brought the message of peace. In fact, he is mentioned by name in the Islamic scripture, the Qur’an, more than the founder of Islam, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). According to the Qur’an Prophet Jesus (pbuh) said, “Surely, God is my Lord, and your Lord. So worship Him alone; this is the right path” (19:37). Thus, Muslims do not consider Jesus (pbuh) as a divine being.

As we all wrap up this year, let’s reflect and evaluate what we have done this year. I wish everyone Happy Holidays and good health. I look forward to 2021 and hoping for the best.
