WOODBRIDGE, VA — An expected month-long lane closure will start Monday on a road off Interstate 95 in Woodbridge, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Opitz Boulevard, one of the key routes connecting Dale City and Woodbridge, will be down to one through lane in the westbound direction between River Rock Way and Telegraph Road. The ramp to northbound I-95 and both eastbound lanes of Opitz Boulevard will remain open.

The closure area is near Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center and several shopping centers, including the Potomac Mills mall. To avoid the road closure area, drivers can turn from Opitz Boulevard left to southbound Potomac Center Boulevard, right to westbound Dale Boulevard, right to northbound Gideon Driver and straight to the Opitz Boulevard and Smoketown Road intersection. The closure is part of bridge work for the 95 Express Lanes/Opitz Boulevard Ramp project. The project will add a new sidewalk for pedestrians and a south-facing, reversible I-95 Express Lanes ramp. The ramp, slated to open in fall 2024, will provide direct access from northbound 95 Express Lanes onto Opitz Boulevard on weekday mornings and from Opitz Boulevard to the southbound 95 Express Lanes on weekday afternoons. A traffic signal in the center of the bridge will control traffic movements.
