Future Kings Honored at Dumfries' 2024 State of the Town Address

Future Kings honored at Dumfries' 275th anniversary for their work in youth empowerment through STEM education and leadership.

Woodbridge, VA – Future-Kings.org, a Northern Virginia-based non-profit organization, was honored at the Town of Dumfries' 2024 State of the Town Address. Held on June 5th, this significant event celebrated the town’s 275th anniversary with a focus on the theme, “Year of the Youth in Civic Engagement."

Event Highlights:

  • Celebrating Youth and Milestones: The Town of Dumfries commemorated its 275th anniversary by spotlighting the achievements and contributions of its young residents. This year’s theme, “Year of the Youth in Civic Engagement,” emphasized the vital role of young people in shaping the community’s future.
  • Recognition of Future Kings: Future Kings was acknowledged for its exceptional work in empowering young men through STEM education and leadership development. This recognition underscores the organization’s impact on fostering youth engagement and civic responsibility.
  • Active Participation: Chaperoned by Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Eric Coleman, by Future Kings program participants Devyn Lester, Noah Coleman, Samuel Adu, and Peter Adu took on the important role of ushers during the event. Their participation reflects the organization’s commitment to involving youth in community and civic activities.
  • Other Honorees: Alongside Future Kings, other youth-focused groups were recognized for their contributions, including the Boys and Girls Club/Torch Club, Jack & Jill, Young Marines, Divine Inspirations, and the Town of Dumfries Interns. These organizations collectively represent the vibrant and engaged youth community of Dumfries.

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized by the Town of Dumfries during such a landmark celebration,” said Dr. Arik King, Executive Director of Future Kings. “Our participants’ involvement in this event is a shining example of their dedication to their community and the leadership skills they are developing. ABOUT FUTURE KINGS
Future Kings is a non-profit organization that aims to prepare male adolescents of color from economically disadvantaged backgrounds for careers in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The organization offers a multi-year program that teaches college-level STEM topics in cybersecurity, biomedical sciences, game design, and engineering. The organization provides scholarships to HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) to help their participants pursue STEM-based careers. The goal is to create a pipeline of 1,000 students per year who can pursue STEM careers and prepare 150 young men each year to receive scholarships to HBCUs. The belief is that this support will have a significant impact on future opportunities for these young men.
