Halloween or Spending to Help the Needy?

Let us all engage in charity rather than spending extravagantly on Halloween.

Today is Halloween. It originated from Pagans who believed that this month is the end of the “season of the sun” and the beginning of the “season of darkness”. It is believed that the dead and evil spirits return to this world and harm people.

People spend extravagantly on costumes, candy, decorations, bonfires, and many other things. God states in the Holy Quran, “And eat and drink but exceed not the bounds; surely, He does not love those who exceed the bounds” (7:32). Spending that money for a better cause will be much helpful to the needy.

Founder of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be on him), said, “The best charity is to fill a hungry stomach.” Let us all engage in charity rather than spending extravagantly on Halloween.
