Martin Luther King Jr. brought about a revolution and is known for ending racial segregation in the United States. This year, we celebrate it on January 18, 2021, as a remembrance of all that he has done for our freedoms today.

Islam, however, laid racial equality more than fourteen hundred years ago. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “God does not look upon your bodies and your outward appearance but He looks at your hearts.” It is very clear that our outward appearance should not matter; what matters most is the love for humanity in our hearts like Martin Luther King Jr. displayed.

Martin Luther King Jr. did not use violence to bring about a change in a country like the United States, rather he used his voice and his peaceful protests to end racial segregation. Today, in the world we live, there is racial injustice and social unrest all around us. We have to remember how he approached inequalities and what Islam teaches us in order to attain peace. Hopefully, very soon, this world will be a better place.
