NoVA Health Centers To Get $16.5M In American Rescue Plan Funding

Three health centers in Northern Virginia will receive $16.5 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA — Virginia will receive $79.9 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support 26 community health centers across the state. Three health centers in Northern Virginia will receive $16.5 million of the funding.

The funding, made possible through the American Rescue Plan, will be distributed to the 26 community health centers beginning in April by the Health Resources and Services Administration.

“For the past year, our community health centers have been on the front lines of providing care to our most vulnerable communities during the COVID-19 crisis,” Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, both Democrats, said Friday in a joint statement.

With the new federal funding, “our community health centers can continue to provide lifesaving care to the folks who need it the most,” the senators said. Both senators voted to approve the American Rescue Plan, which was signed into law by President Joe Biden on March 11.

Health centers will be able to use the funds to support and expand COVID-19 vaccination, testing and treatment for vulnerable populations. The funds also can be used to provide preventive and primary health care services to those at higher risk for COVID-19 and expand health centers’ operational capacity during the pandemic.

The three community health centers in Northern Virginia awarded funding are:

  • Neighborhood Health, Alexandria, $7,893,875
  • Loudoun Community Health Center, Leesburg, $3,976,500
  • Greater Prince William Area Community Health Center Inc., Woodbridge, $4,647,375
