Officer-Involved Shooting Kills Man During Lake Ridge Barricade: Police

During a barricade overnight, Prince William County Police fatally shot an armed man who police believe was suicidal.

LAKE RIDGE, VA — A man was killed during an officer-involved shooting early Thursday in Lake Ridge, according to Prince William County Police.

Around 8:21 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a report of a suicidal person in the 3400 block of Caledonia Circle in Lake Ridge. Police soon found the man at an acquaintance's home in the 3000 block of Bromley Court in Lake Ridge and said he was armed. A barricade developed overnight as officers attempted numerous times to get the man to safely surrender.

Around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, police say an interaction with the man led to him being shot and killed. No other details on how the shooting unfolded were immediately available. There were no other injuries from the officer-involved shooting.

The man, who has not been publicly identified, is a 22-year-old from Woodbridge.

Prince William County Chief Peter Newsham has requested an independent investigation from the regional Critical Incident Response Team into the officer-involved shooting.
