Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the Liberator of Women

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Paradise lies under the feet of mother."

Gender inequality has always been an issue. Men had their way in everything from the very beginning. It was only until recently that women were granted rights which even now are not practiced properly. If one ponders, one can make their own judgment of the society whether inequality exists or not.

In pre-Islamic era, women had no value. When the religion of Islam came, it brought its beautiful teachings including women’s rights and their value in the society. Muslim women have a high place in the society. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) elevated women’s status so much that he placed a path to paradise through mothers. He said, “Paradise lies under the feet of mother.” This does not merely mean that through a mother’s feet, one will find a physical paradise. Rather, it means that if heaven can be attained by subsequent generations, it can only be acquired through mothers who themselves have become a heavenly sign and heaven has become manifest in their appearance. The progeny of such mothers is bound to belong to paradise. And the best definition of paradise is love of God.

I am a proud Ahmadi Muslim woman, and I celebrate Women’s History Month in the remembrance of my beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Indeed, he was the liberator of women.
