Role Of Women In Islam

In Islam, women have very high status, as mothers, daughters and sisters. The historical record shows that Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) consulted women and weighed their opinions giving them utmost importance.

Islam emphasizes the importance of a woman’s role towards her family as a responsibility placed on her shoulder by God. A woman, especially the mother’s responsibility is even bigger, as it encompasses her home and children. She is a role model in her behavior and through her actions. Islam teaches a mother to be very conscious of her role and do her best to make it beneficial for the development of her children as they set out on the journey of life. Islam also emphasizes that mothers do a invaluable job in upbringing their children. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Paradise lies under the feet of mothers.” In other words, paradise awaits those who cherish and respect their mothers.

God has given women the special capabilities and skills to take care of children. As a mother, I try my utmost to fulfill my children’s needs. A mother exhibits patience, kindness, willingness to sacrifice her own comforts, and her natural affinity for children which are key to successful upbringing of children. No day care center or nursery can make up for the quality time with the mother. Women as homemakers are the silent workers who make indispensable contributions for building character of the next generation. I feel that a believing mother who understands the crucial nature of her responsibility will imbibe her children with faith and moral values, as much as she can. She will raise children with courage, honesty, truthfulness, patience and perseverance, love and kindness, faith and self-confidence. On the other hand, a society without mothers and homemakers will jeopardize the nation’s future.
