Swim Instructor Charged In Sexual Assault Of Student: Police

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A swim teacher at a Woodbridge pool, has been charged with sexually assaulting a child during lessons, according to Prince William County Police.

The assault was reported on June 22, and occurred at the Chinn Park Recreation Center, 3025 Chinn Park Drive in Woodbridge, between April and May 2022, a police report said.

Police said the victim, who was younger than 13 at the time of the offenses, was sexually assaulted on more than one occasion by a swim instructor during lessons.

The instructor, identified as Daniel Smith, 72, of 4065 Chetham Way in Woodbridge, was arrested July 14 on two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

He is being held without bond.
