Toddler's Death Leads To Charges For Woodbridge Parents

After a toddler's autopsy showed signs of suspected abuse, Prince William County Police arrested the two wanted parents.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Two parents from Woodbridge are facing charges after the death of their 19-month-old boy in January 2023.

Police had responded to a home in the 4300 block of Granby Rd. in Woodbridge on Jan. 22, 2023. Fire and rescue found the 19-month-old toddler unresponsive and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy of the toddler showed signs of suspected abuse by the parents. The medical examiner's office did not provide a cause of death.

After an investigation and consultation with the Commonwealth's Attorney's office, detectives obtained arrest warrants for the parents, Richard Osmin Ascencio, 31, and Jakeline Sanchez, 28, both of Woodbridge.

Police were unable to locate the suspects, but they turned themselves in on Saturday. Both were charged with felony child abuse and were held without bond.
