Virtual Workout For Charity Hosted By Sentara Medical Center

Sentara Medical Center will donate $10 to the American Heart Association for every person who attends their virtual workout session.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Sentara Medical Center is hosting a virtual workout session on Thursday, Feb. 25 to raise money for the American Heart Association. The workout is being run by Shannon Link of FIT4MOM, and Sentara will donate $10 to charity for each attendee, according to a news release.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for Americans, according to the CDC. In their news release, Sentara said is is hosting the free event to encourage a healthy diet and exercise for residents, in an effort to mitigate the risk of heart disease.

"Traditionally, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center has raised money for the American Heart Association with its Red Dress Luncheon," said Kathie Johnson, the president of Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. "Since we were unable to host the popular event, we wanted to do something to raise awareness and get people moving — especially during the pandemic."

The free virtual fitness class will take participants through several cycles of exercise. Shannon Link of FIT4MOM will lead participants through intervals include cycles of cardio, strength, core work, and a meditation.

FIT4MOM is a nationwide franchise that provides workout programs for mothers. They currently offer different programs for pregnant women and mothers to stay healthy. Detailed information about specific programs and schedules can be found on FIT4MOM's Woodbridge website.

Prince William County residents are encouraged to register for the event on Sentara's website. The event will take place over Zoom, and log in information will be e-mailed to participants after they register.
