This year Thanksgiving...

This year cannot be more different.

(williams-sonoma.com)

This Thanksgiving will be different from the years before due to the unprecedented times, but we are all in this together. We do have to remember to appreciate and love our family for who they are.

In Islam, there are three types of gratitude. First is to understand and be grateful in one’s heart, second is to express it by verbal praise, and third is by one’s actions which is by living according to the teachings demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and spending one’s wealth on less fortunate in particular.

Islam teaches the best way to be grateful to God is by giving to the needy for the sake of God and mankind. During these trying times, it is challenging for a lot of people to help those who are less fortunate, but helping others does not have to be with money. Helping others in light of today could be donating some masks or hand sanitizer to a facility that needs it such as a hospital or a senior home. It can also be to keep ourselves and others safe by following government guidelines. There is no doubt that health is wealth as we all have seen it in the recent months.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “One who is not grateful to others is not grateful to God.” This year, a lot of people lost their dear ones. So let us all remember to appreciate our families and loved ones. Let’s celebrate happiness and unity this Thanksgiving and be grateful for all that we have.
