WASHINGTON — For this weekly roundup of local photography, Patch took several submissions from three readers showing a small diversity of Washington's beautiful wildlife.

The first couple sets of photos are from Glenn and Marie Clair of Allyn, Washington —

In the first set, the Clairs on July 20 found an otter at the Theler Center in Belfair just after it'd found itself a tasty sturgeon lunch.

The Clairs wrote:

We were taking a walk at Theler Center and watched the river otter trying to "land" a white sturgeon that was longer than he was. It tried on one side of the Union River, then towed it across the river to the other bank.

The otter finally got fish on the shore, then decided it was too much effort and swam away.

Here are a couple yard visitors:
A Western Tanager that was passing through the yard.

This visitor spent about 24 hours in our yard. Such a treat to see a beautiful, colorful bird!

Usually the flicker will fly away as soon as a door opens, but this time, with a hungry young one, it stayed around long enough for a photo.

In the final photo this week, reader Penny Jensen found a deer nursing a fawn in her Fairwood-area backyard.
