TACOMA, WA β€” The Tacoma Police Department says it is investigating a deadly shooting late Sunday night that injured four people and killed one.

According to police, South Sound 911 received at about 10:35 p.m. warning that multiple people had been shot at a home in the 900 block of E. 52nd Street.

As officers arrived, they say they were met by a 34-year-old man stumbling out of the home, who quickly collapsed. Police say they tried to treat him, but he "became combative" and tried to push them off. He was detained and rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Once inside the property, officers found a 38-year-old man lying in the backyard. He was declared dead shortly afterwards. He lived at the home with his wife, a 35-year-old woman. She was found near the residence with several gunshot wounds, and was also rushed to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Another adult woman and three children were also inside the home, but they were unharmed.

While they investigated the home, officers learned of two other shooting victims who had left the property before police arrived. The first, a 28-year-old man, had been rushed from the home in a private vehicle, but the driver of the vehicle ultimately pulled over at the intersection of E. 48 and Portland Avenue, before calling 911. An ambulance then took the 28-year-old the rest of the way to the hospital. He is expected to survive.

The other injured person, a 32-year-old man, took himself to a Lakewood hospital. After interviewing him, officers detained him. He was released from the hospital and booked in the Pierce County Jail on two counts of assault.

It is still unclear exactly what happened leading up to the shooting, though Tacoma Police say their investigation is active and ongoing.
