SEATTLE — As Amtrak looks to restore more service along the Cascades route this year, job-seekers in the Seattle area will have an opportunity to get hired on the spot next week.

Amtrak recently launched a nationwide campaign to hire new staffers in Seattle and other major cities, including Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. The Seattle hiring event is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel.

The rail service is looking to fill several roles, including train attendants, machinists, electricians, motor equipment operators and coach cleaners. Those interested in participating are welcome to RSVP online, but walk-ins are welcome. Amtrak said candidates should plan to be on-site for at least four hours and should bring three printed resumes.

The hiring push comes as Amtrak prepares to restore a second round-trip to Vancouver, B.C., on March 7, bringing the Cascades line closer to its pre-pandemic levels. Amtrak is also aiming to increase daily trips between Seattle and Portland from four to six by the fall.

"I'm thankful that Amtra is finally on the path to fully restore service in the Pacific Northwest," said Sen. Maria Cantwell, earlier this month. "[The] I-5 corridor in the State of Washington is one of the most congested corridors in the nation and the Cascades service provides a convenient alternative to travelers."

Cantwell's office said more than 750,000 riders used the Cascades route before the pandemic began. Service to Vancouver was paused until last September when Amtrak restored a single daily round-trip.
