Cold Days & More Snow Chances For Seattle This Weekend: Forecast

Afternoon temperatures in Seattle will struggle to break freezing by Thursday, and low-elevation snow may be back in the cards this weekend.

Major accumulations are not expected, but there will be a few chances for lowland snow as temperatures take a dive over the next few days.

SEATTLE — A cold air mass will keep things wintry in Western Washington through at least the weekend, and a few chances for low-elevation snow remain in the forecast.

Daytime temperatures are on track to take a plunge Wednesday, with forecasters seeing a slight chance of snow and an afternoon high of just 35 degrees. Wind chill values could bring that down to the 20s, potentially declining overnight into the teens.

While no significant snowfall accumulations are expected around Seattle, the air will be frigid, even as the sun emerges Thursday and Friday. The National Weather Service predicts the coldest stretch of the week will be between Thursday and Saturday morning.

In updated forecasts Tuesday, NWS Seattle said another system could renew chances for some lowland snow Saturday through Monday.

"Guidance is coming in a little cooler, so while initial [precipitation] is expected to still be in the form of snow, the window for mixed [precipitation] extends throughout the day Saturday and into Sunday morning — except along the coast — before warming up enough to make the switch to rain," forecasters wrote Tuesday. "A secondary upper level low moves in quickly for Sunday night into Monday. Again, chilly overnight lows may allow precip to transition back to a wintery mix but the prospect for any impactful lowland snowfall seems minimal at this time."

Forecasters expect temperatures will begin to moderate over the weekend, with highs rising into the mid-40s and lows hovering just a degree or two above freezing. More active weather could be ahead as the calendar turns, and new climate outlooks favor colder, wetter weather sticking around for the first week of March.
