SEATTLE — Dozens of pets were evacuated Wednesday from a dog daycare in North Seattle after a dryer caught fire at the facility. The Seattle Fire Department first confirmed a commercial fire on the Lake City Way Northeast shortly before 11 a.m.

Crews had the fire contained within 20 minutes. Officials said all seven workers were accounted for and firefighters were actively rescuing more dogs from the scene. The fire was extinguished by 12:30 p.m. and Seattle fire worked with animal control and a nearby veterinary clinic to care for and transport the animals.

According to KING 5, more than 100 dogs were in the daycare when the fire ignited. Medics performed life-saving measures on four animals, and two others were taken to the vet for smoke inhalation. KING 5 reported that bystanders, drivers and local businesses helped rescue and secure the dogs, and King County Metro sent two buses to help shelter the animals.
