New entertainment space Capitol Hill Comedy / Bar is coming

The new entertainment and community space will open May 6th on Broadway Ave E in the center of Seattle's nightlife scene.

Capitol Hill Comedy / Baris a unique stand-up comedy venue set to open May 6, 2023. The combination entertainment and community space is reimagining the former Highline Bar at 210 Broadway E in Seattle's bustling Capitol Hill neighborhood. The venue aims to provide a platform for local comedians to showcase their talent and entertain audiences six nights a week, offering a diverse range of entertainment options including open mics, trivia, bingo, karaoke, and local stand-up comedy shows. Weekends will host community events and workshops dedicated to cultivating the next generation of Seattle talent.

Located just north of Capitol Hill Station, Capitol Hill Comedy / Bar is part of a compact entertainment complex that includes the axe-tossing bar Blade and Timber. The venue's intimate, speakeasy-like atmosphere, with a capacity of 200 people, features an industrial vibe with concrete floors and black-painted stone walls, while acoustic paneling ensures optimal sound quality.

Owner Dane Hesseldahl is excited to create a space where emerging performers can connect to audiences in a professional atmosphere. "We want every show to feel like both viewers and comedians are experiencing the ‘big time’," Hesseldahl said. The new venue will build on the legacy of the now-shuttered Jai Thai, which was once a popular destination for the local stand-up comedy scene.

Capitol Hill Comedy / Bar is committed to curating diverse shows, both culturally and in terms of experience. "We'll bring on some people for their first booked show, as well as acts that have been regularly performing throughout the region," Hesseldahl said. The opening show on May 6th will feature beloved local comic Sam Miller, who got his start at Jai Thai's open mic. Additional acts will be announced soon.

In addition to comedy, guests can enjoy classic cocktails "with a twist," as well as beer, cider, wine, and non-alcoholic cocktails made with Pathfinder spirits. The balcony overlooking Broadway will also be reopened, offering a unique spot for patrons to relax with a drink and a view. Signature drinks will include a Mezcal Negroni, Tequila Old Fashioned, New Your Sour, and a Bay Breeze.
