SEATTLE — Another frontal season will keep rain, wind and mountain snow in the forecast for Western Washington through Tuesday, and showers are a good bet for much of the week ahead. According to the National Weather Service, the winds that picked up Monday should peak Tuesday morning, but gusts are now forecast to be lighter than what many areas experienced Friday.

The heaviest rain should also pass by midday Tuesday, with the highest totals expected over the Olympics and north Cascades. There will also be a small chance for thunderstorms developing Tuesday afternoon across the interior.

Travel could be difficult in the mountain passes, with snow levels dropping below 2,000 feet by Tuesday night. Stevens Pass could see up to 18 inches of new snow by Wednesday morning, while Snoqualmie Pass could pick up 8 inches. Forecasters are keeping an eye on a possible convergence zone developing Tuesday, which could boost some snow totals.

Forecasters expect high pressure should keep the weather on the drier side Thursday before wetter conditions return heading into the weekend. So far, the additional systems do not appear to present any significant hazards.
