Richard Rooney M.D, on Fun Activities for a Snow Day in Seattle

Richard Rooney M.D shares insight into fun activities you can do with the kids on a snow day.

The winter months in Seattle can bring cold weather, icy rain, and snow. With the kids home from school, parents are left to come up with some last minute snow day fun. While building snowmen is always an option, it doesn't hurt to get a little creative.

The Best Snow Day Activities
Snow days are the perfect opportunity for kids to have some serious fun in the snow. While they could stay in and watch Netflix all day, there are much better ways to play on a snow day. Read on for the best snow day activities.

Create Art in the Snow
Snow angels are great, but snow art is even better. Bring out dishwasher bottles or spray bottles filled with water and food coloring. This splash of color is a great way to shake things up on a snow day.

Kids can design their own colorful drawings in the snow. Rainbows, self-portraits, flowers, and the like are all great options for art on a snow day.

Build a Campsite in the Living Room
What better way to spend a snow day indoors than in one's own living room campsite? Kids will love getting to make their own campsite by either pitching a tent in the middle of the living room or creating a fort out of pillows and blankets. Once the campsite is ready, it's time to actually do some camping.

Break out the campfire food with everything from s'mores to hot dogs and burgers. Add in some hot cocoa for a truly perfect indoor camping day.

Have a Bake Off
Another great way to stay warm on a snow day is to get the oven running. Gather the kids and start making some winter treats. For fun, make creative snacks like Oreo snowballs or gingerbread men while having fun baking up a storm.

Get the Snow Cones Out
Sometimes, there's nothing better than enjoying a cold treat on a cold day. Get inspired by the snow outside and make snow cones that the children will love. Adventurous parents can use snow from outside or crushed ice from the freezer to make this snack. With the addition of sugar, lemon juice, and frozen concentrated juice, the kids will be able to enjoy this deliciously icy treat.

Never waste a snow day by being bored at home. Keep these four ideas in mind as the weather gets colder and the holidays approach.
