SEATTLE — Puget Sound anglers will have until Monday to catch Chinook in East Elliott Bay, giving fishers a chance to get out and enjoy the weekend weather with a beautiful view. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the extra few days of fishing Thursday, pointing to a Chinook return large enough to welcome anglers back for some bonus time.

“In coordination with tribal co-managers and the in-season tools that have been developed for this system, we’re able to have accurate updates for the East Elliott Bay area,” said Kirsten Simonsen, WDFW’s Puget Sound recreational salmon manager. “This allows us to provide more fishing [opportunities] within view of downtown Seattle.”

Between Friday and noon Monday, anglers can fish for Chinook from the Duwamish Head to Pier 91, and up to the mouth of the Duwamish River, which includes the waters around Harbor Island. The daily catch limit is two, and Chinook must measure at least 22 inches or be released. There is no minimum size for other salmon, and fishers should release chum.
