See 2021's Top Baby Names In Puget Sound

To give a hint: many of Western Washington's popular baby names have a naturalistic bent.

SEATTLE — Naming your baby is probably one of the top five things you want to do after having one, and studies show almost all babies have names.

But what name is right for a baby? They can't all be named John, because that's my dad's name, and it's taken.

Fortunately, we have some advice to help you name your baby, so it fits in (or stands out) from the pack. According to Nameberry, which bills itself as "the world's largest website devoted to baby names" these are the top ten names for babies in the Seattle area:

Like Page, Hugo and Rowan are unique to Western Washington, and don't show up in the top name rankings of other cities.

As researchers point out: a lot of these names, like Hazel, Aurora and Rowan, are nature themed. Seattle also has a lot of names in common with one major city: New York City. Nameberry's list for the big apple has eight of the same names: Arlo, Felix, Finn, Kai, Milo, Luna, Aurelia and Aurora.

For their ranking, Nameberry looked at baby names for kids born in 2021 in 12 U.S. cities, including Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and NYC. Overall, the top-ranked girl name was actually Maeve, which did not appear on Seattle's list at all.

The top city girl names, which all ranked on three or more lists, are:

  • Maeve
  • Ava
  • Amara
  • Luna
  • Aurelia
  • Eleanor
  • Esme
  • Hazel
  • Iris
  • Isla
  • Nora
  • Ophelia

As for boy names, the following also showed up on three or more lists:

  • Arlo
  • Atticus
  • Milo
  • Felix
  • Atlas
  • August
  • Cassius
  • Finn
  • Kai
  • Theodore
  • Caleb
  • Ezra
  • James

In this author's opinion, its a shame that Charles isn't making any of these lists, but hey: at least it's a good name for dogs.
