SPU and WM Now Accepting Applications for ReThink Waste Grants

The ReThink Waste Grants program supports organizations working to advance recycling, composting or waste prevention.

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) and WM are teaming up for the sixth year in a row to invest $10,000 in the community. The ReThink Waste Grants program supports organizations working to advance recycling, composting or waste prevention.

The grants are open to community organizations, small businesses, and nonprofits in WM’s service area in Seattle. Funding is $500 to $5,000 per project.

Organizations may now apply for the 2024 ReThink Waste Grants using this link. Applications will be accepted through Monday, July 1.

  • Shared Spaces Foundation / The Heron’s Nest Outdoor Education Center – Plastics recycling: plastics shredding and extruding machines to process plastics from households, businesses and Duwamish River cleanup events
  • El Centro de la Raza – Waste reduction: modernizing water bottle filling stations at El Centro’s historic building in Beacon Hill
  • Utility Squared Community – Recycling education: educating youth about waste reduction through workshops and curriculum development Restaurant 2 Garden – Food waste reduction: expanding food waste recovery in the Chinatown-International District
