SEATTLE — Washington State Ferries will continue its Veterans Day tradition Friday, with all vessels across Puget Sound flying special flags and sounding their whistles at 11:11 a.m.

The nation's largest ferry system started the commemoration In 2015 as a way to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by those who serve in all branches of the armed forces. New this year, each ferry will sail Friday under a flag from the U.S. Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Space Force. Each vessel will also fly the POW/MIA flag.

"This will be our seventh consecutive year commemorating this important day and we take great pride in this tradition as it is our unique way to express our gratitude and support for veterans, including many in our workforce," said Nicole McIntosh, the ferry system's chief of staff.
