Walk to End Alzheimer's Returns Oct. 2

Alzheimer's Association moves ahead with plans for in-person event

The Pacific Northwest Walk to End Alzheimer's β€” which was held virtually last year β€” returns to Seattle on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021. This year, people will have the option to attend the in-person event or participate from home and walk in their own neighborhood.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's is the world's largest event to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Organizers hope to raise $525,000, which will help fund Alzheimer's and dementia research, as well as local support services for people living with dementia and their families.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the Opening Ceremony starts at 9 a.m. The event is family and pet-friendly and the walk route is fully accessible. The event is free; however, people who donate or raise $100 or more will receive a 2021 Walk to End Alzheimer's t-shirt in the mail after the walk. Organizers say they are monitoring federal, state and local public health guidelines to ensure the event adheres to recommendations and is safe for attendees.

For those who would prefer to participate remotely, the Alzheimer's Association is also offering a "Walk From Home" option. Using the Walk to End Alzheimer's mobile app, people can participate in many of the same Walk-day activities they would typically enjoy. The app includes a prerecorded Opening and Promise Garden Ceremony, an augmented reality Promise Garden where people can select a flower to plant among others and an augmented reality finish line.

No matter where people participate, they'll make a difference in the lives of people affected by Alzheimer's disease and all other dementia.
